It is our guess Napoleon was receiving reports from America about the land he owned. It’s an empty tornado alley, a mosquito swamp and a freezing northern flatland he might have been told. Land with little value. Regardless of the bad sales pitch, we are glad France decided to give the United States such a great deal. It made 1803 a very good year. America controlled the Mississippi River and with it the greatest city in the world.
